Today is Friday 14th Sept 2001 and in just over a month I will turn 65.I thought today that the older I get the more I remember of the past in the "BOROUGH" were I was born. I feel now that I need to walk the streets not drive through them as it is all the little reminders of past history that are only visible when one looks for them .
The little houses down lanes now named after well known Port identies, the old shops now converted to homes some still bearing the original verandas with faded signs like Swallows biscuits,Lipton tea,
The many hotels some lovingly restored, with the name and date of construction still present. The wonderful old hardware store of Farrams still with the original front windows and veranda and inside high shelves with boxes containing all manner of treasures.
Do you know that Farrams shuts for lunch Mon to Frid and has done ever since it was founded in 1859.
WOW ins't this great.
The wonderful Port Town Hall the front facade now being restored as well as the clock tower
The former Court House now restored and trading as a very bright and colourful nursery built 1860
As i say unless I wander it is easy to miss the history still left but disappearing at a great rate which I find
has only taken 65 years ,not long at all for my birthplace to fade from my view. Lois Daley
